It’s Day 7 in ICC CWC23 where team India will collide with team Afghanistan at Delhi. The 9th game of ICC Men’s CWC23 will be played at Delhi, Kohli’s homeground. India have won the only WC game played between both these teams. In CWC19, While chasing the total of 224 Afganistan ran out of 11 runs. Ibrahim Zadran and Rehmanullah Gurbaz will open the innings for Aghanistan while India hope Jasprit and Siraj to provide early breakthrough in the 9th game of ICC Men’s ODI Cricket Worldcup 2023.

Afghanistan openers provide steady start in this contest of ICC CWC2023 in Delhi. But Jasprit Bumrah’s genius comes into play in the 7th over when his traps Ibrahim Zadran who edges the ball to the keeper’s gloves. AFG are 1 down at 32 after 7.

The first power play has gone with AFG are 48 for 1 at 4.8 with Gurbaz and Rahmat on the crease. AFG hit eigtht 4s and one 6 from 1-10. Ibrahim Zadran goes for 22 off 28. Bumrah is the pick of the bowler with 1 for 9 in his 4 overs spell.

The onset of 2nd power play proves dreadful for AFG as they lose 2 quick wickets. !st Hardik and then Shardul strikes. Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah go back to the pavillion in no time. AFG are 63 for 3 in 13.1.

AFG runrate goes down similar to IND over rate. They’re scoring runs at 4.15 and add 35 runs from 11-20 to the scorecard for the loss of 2 wickets. Therefore, they’re now 83 for 3 after 20.

AFG come back stronger in the 21-30. Without giving away any wicket, AFG post 64 more to the total. At the end of the 30 Afghanistan reach 147 for 3 at 4.9 with 20 to go.

From the 31st over to the 40th over, Afghanistan displayed average cricket. Azmatullah and Hashmat were playing well and were cruising to score over 300 runs but as soon as Azmatull departed, India put the break on the run-scoring opportunities. Muhammad Nabi hasn’t shown any intent to score quickly in this phase of the game. 

The phase between 31 to 40 overs was a good one too for Afghanistan. They added 65 runs for the loss of one wicket of Azmatullah. He made 62 for 69 balls with a healthy strike rate. His 122-run partnership with Hasmatullah really set the platform for the rest of the batters to go big in the last part of the inning. 

The second powerplay from from 10th to the 40th over gave a huge amount of runs. In the 2nd powerplay, Afghanistan scored 163 runs losing 3 wickets. Normally teams score around 200 runs in the 2nd powerplay but the Indian bowling attack and losing too many wickets upfront stopped Afghanistan from capitalizing on the 2nd powerplay. 

In the last powerplay from 41st over to 50th, India came back strongly. Afghanistan only added 61 runs to the total and Afghanistan ended up with a modest total of 272 runs on the board.  Afghanistan was expected to bat a lot better in the last phase of the match. Muhammad Nabi did not play with intent. Rashid, Mujeeb, and Naveen contributed valuable runs in the last few overs.
