The Indian women`s cricket team achieved a significant four-wicket win over New Zealand in their second warm-up match for the ICC Women`s World Cup 2025/26, held in Bengaluru. This victory served as an excellent bounce-back performance after a substantial loss to England in their previous encounter.
India`s Successful Run Chase
Tasked with chasing a target of 237 runs, India commenced their innings robustly, reaching 54 without loss in the eighth over. However, they soon encountered a brief stumble with the rapid departures of Pratika Rawal and Uma Chetry, leaving the score at 71 for 2. The momentum was swiftly regained through a pivotal 132-run third-wicket partnership forged by Harleen Deol, who top-scored with an impressive 74 runs, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed a solid 69. Their combined efforts propelled India close to the required total. Despite a late-innings wobble where India lost four wickets, dropping from 203 for 2 to 230 for 6, the team maintained composure and ultimately secured the win with ten balls remaining.
New Zealand`s Innings Overview
Earlier in the day, following a rain delay, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. India`s bowlers started effectively, making early breakthroughs and restricting the White Ferns to 38 for 2 by the eighth over. Sophie Devine`s half-century (54 runs) and Amelia Kerr`s steady innings of 40 runs from 67 balls were crucial in stabilizing New Zealand`s innings, guiding them to 132 for 3. They eventually concluded their innings with a total of 232 for 8 in a contest shortened to 42 overs per side due to the weather conditions.
Outstanding Bowling Performances
For the Indian side, N Shree Charani was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three vital wickets. Supporting her effectively were the pacers Kranti Goud and Arundhati Reddy, who had recovered from a leg injury sustained in the prior match; both bowlers made significant contributions by taking two wickets each.
