French international players Ousmane Dembélé (28) and Désiré Doué (20) have withdrawn from the national squad after sustaining injuries during Friday`s match against Ukraine.
France`s 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Poland, though successful, was marred by these setbacks. Doué was forced off at halftime due to a calf injury. He was replaced by Dembélé, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, who had already been recovering from a hamstring injury sustained the previous weekend.
Unfortunately, Dembélé also suffered a new injury. The former Stade Rennais winger aggravated his hamstring (distinct from the one injured in the 6-3 win against Toulouse the prior weekend) and was substituted in the 80th minute. This turn of events is a significant concern for PSG, who are reportedly “furious” with how Dembélé`s fitness was managed by the French national team.
Both players were seen limping as they left the stadium in Wroclaw, and head coach Didier Deschamps had expressed pessimism regarding their availability for Tuesday`s upcoming match against Iceland. Subsequently, as anticipated, both Dembélé and Doué have departed the France camp to undergo further medical examinations for their respective injuries.
