Inter Faces Roma Without Injured Thuram, Bonny Favored Over Esposito

Football & Cricket

Inter Milan is set to face Roma in a critical Serie A encounter, but they will likely be without the services of French forward Marcus Thuram. He has not yet returned to full training with the first team, making Ange-Yoan Bonny the frontrunner to partner Lautaro Martinez in attack, ahead of Francesco Pio Esposito.

The highly anticipated Week 7 match will kick off on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico at 19:45 UK time (18:45 GMT).

Thuram`s absence from this significant Serie A clash appears increasingly probable. He is still recovering from a femoral bicep strain in his left leg, an injury that previously led to his withdrawal from international duty with France. He did not participate in today`s full training session, casting doubt on his availability for the weekend.

Inter`s coaching staff is reportedly taking a cautious approach with Thuram, aiming for his complete recovery in time for the crucial Scudetto battle against Napoli, scheduled for October 25.

Meanwhile, captain Lautaro Martinez returned early from international duty, taking a private plane home after scoring two goals for Argentina in their rescheduled friendly against Puerto Rico. This early return allowed him to join Inter`s training session today, and he is fully expected to lead the line against Roma.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Bonny is the preferred choice to play alongside Martinez. Bonny has remained with the Inter squad throughout the recent international break, maintaining his training regime. In contrast, Esposito was away on international duty, scoring his first senior goal for Italy. Bonny`s continuous presence and training with the team appear to give him the edge for a starting spot.
