Ipswich Town Sign Azor Matusiwa from Rennes

Football & Cricket

Ipswich Town has completed the signing of defensive midfielder Azor Matusiwa from Stade Rennais, both clubs have confirmed.

The 27-year-old Dutchman joins the Championship side on a four-year contract. Matusiwa arrived at Rennes from Ligue 1 rivals Stade de Reims eighteen months ago in a €15m deal but struggled to consistently replicate the form that earned him the move to the Bretons.

Sources like L`Equipe suggest the transfer fee agreed with Ipswich is €11.5m.

During his time at Rennes, Matusiwa made 47 appearances. His departure comes as Rennes looks to streamline its squad under newly-named Sporting Director Loïc Désiré. Reports indicated that Matusiwa was not guaranteed significant playing time under head coach Habib Beye.
