Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, has provided an update regarding the condition of defensive stalwart João Cancelo, following the player’s premature exit from the club’s latest fixture.
The incident occurred earlier this evening during Barcelona’s La Liga encounter with Rayo Vallecano. Despite facing persistent injury challenges in the Blaugrana’s backline, Cancelo started the match and proved pivotal, delivering the assist for his team’s sole goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
However, as the match drew to a close at the Spotify Camp Nou, the former Manchester City player collapsed to the ground, showing clear signs of discomfort. Consequently, Cancelo was substituted, making way for young talent Xavi Espart.
In his post-match comments to the media, Hansi Flick was specifically asked whether his versatile full-back had sustained any injury. The Barcelona manager swiftly reassured reporters, stating: “He’s not injured. It was incredible to see how tired he was but he kept playing until we could finally sub him out.” This clarification confirms that Cancelo’s early departure was a result of extreme fatigue, rather than a physical setback.
