Jonathan Clauss’ Transfer to Bayer Leverkusen Falls Through

Football & Cricket

The anticipated transfer of OGC Nice`s 32-year-old right-back, Jonathan Clauss, to Bayer Leverkusen has reportedly collapsed. According to a report from RMC Sport, the Bundesliga club failed to reach an agreement with Nice over the France international`s final year of contract. Nice reportedly rejected a €12 million offer from Bayer Leverkusen. Clauss had previously agreed on personal terms with the German side, who were actively seeking a new fullback after Jeremie Frimpong`s departure.

The report further indicates that negotiations between Nice and Bayer Leverkusen have been halted after several rounds of inconclusive talks. It appears the Bundesliga club was unwilling to meet Nice`s valuation of Clauss. The fullback was notably absent from Franck Haise`s squad that secured a 3-1 victory over Auxerre on Saturday. Despite the collapsed deal, Nice reportedly intends to retain Clauss` services until his contract expires next June.
