Real Madrid, the Spanish football giants, are reportedly preparing a list of four potential candidates to lead the team next season. Among the leading contenders for the managerial position is former Real Madrid coach, José Mourinho.
Álvaro Arbeloa is currently serving as the interim manager for Real Madrid, having taken over after Xabi Alonso’s dismissal in January. However, following a series of disappointing results, the club has decided not to extend Arbeloa’s tenure beyond the current summer.
This means Florentino Pérez and the club’s management face a significant decision ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Recent reports from Fabrizio Romano, a prominent insider in the transfer market, have shed light on the situation within the Bernabéu boardroom.
“José Mourinho remains keen on a return to Real Madrid, as was reported two weeks ago,” Romano stated. “Florentino Pérez will make the final decision personally. Mourinho is among the four candidates for the job.”
The report also mentions that Benfica is keen for José Mourinho to stay, and there is a €6 million gross termination clause that is only valid until the final days of May.
