Polish short track speed skater Kamila Sellier endured a shocking accident during the 1500-meter short track quarterfinals at a Milan Cortina event, resulting in a severe injury with potentially long-lasting consequences. The incident left the athlete with a deep laceration under her eye and necessitated several days of hospitalization in serious condition.
One month after the crash, Sellier revealed the full extent of her ordeal. “I have a titanium plate implanted in my eye socket, beneath my eye, and my vision might remain permanently blurred,” she shared. Despite the gravity of her injuries, she added, “but I’m not giving up.”
Sellier’s Resilient Spirit
Appearing with a noticeable scar beneath her left eye and accompanied by her boyfriend, Sellier reiterated her resolve. “I’ll bear this scar, and my vision might stay blurry, but I won’t surrender,” she affirmed. She further detailed her injuries, stating, “I also have a fracture under my eyebrow. The most frustrating aspect is experiencing double vision when looking up, and sometimes even when looking down.” For three days following the accident, the skater was unable to open her eye.
“It was a very serious incident, but I’m trying to stay positive,” Sellier explained. “I have the support of my entire family, and indeed, the whole world; I received countless messages of affection after the fall. I understand the risks inherent in my sport, but I don’t want to abandon it.” Her determination to continue competing, despite the physical and visual impairments, underscores her profound passion for short track speed skating.
