Following their impressive 2-0 triumph, Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni addressed what they perceive as constant scrutiny from critics, asserting that many are “waiting to attack” Inter at the slightest setback. They also enthusiastically lauded Francesco Pio Esposito for scoring his maiden Serie A goal.
The stakes were high for the Nerazzurri, who faced a formidable Cagliari side that had recently secured consecutive Serie A victories.
Lautaro Martinez, returning to the starting lineup after recovering from a back injury, immediately made a decisive impact by heading in the opening goal.
Despite Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan hitting the woodwork and Davide Frattesi being denied by a goal-line clearance, Francesco Pio Esposito solidified the win. He converted Federico Dimarco’s well-placed pass, marking his first-ever goal in Serie A.
Lautaro Martinez`s Return Inspires Inter`s Victory Celebration

Playing here is consistently tough due to the compact pitch and the passionate home crowd. However, we displayed the correct mentality from the outset, and I believe our victory was well-deserved.
Martinez shared with Sky Sport Italia. He elaborated: “We generated numerous scoring opportunities and, with significant skill, we netted the second goal to secure the outcome.”
The prolific Argentine forward has now etched his name into Inter`s history books, becoming the club`s fifth-highest Serie A scorer of all time with 117 goals, thereby surpassing Sandro Mazzola`s impressive record of 116.
For years, we`ve consistently competed at the highest level in every competition, despite persistent attempts by others to criticize us. It`s vital that we maintain our focus, as every tournament holds immense importance for us.
Martinez asserted, emphasizing the team`s ongoing commitment.
In a touching moment on the pitch, Esposito’s goal came against his brother Sebastiano’s team, leading to an emotional embrace between the siblings after the final whistle.
“We`ve known him since his academy days, and he frequently trained with the first team,” Martinez clarified. “He consistently demonstrates a strong mindset, a desire to improve, and a willingness to accept guidance. He must continue on this path. He`s intelligent, so we`re confident he will excel for both Inter and Italian football. It`s crucial not to overburden him with expectations. We are pleased he remained with us.”

Bastoni, who earned the prestigious Serie A Man of the Match award, firmly stated that the recent critiques directed at Inter this season have been disproportionate.
Our attitude has always been appropriate. I even stated this after our four-goal concession against Juventus, which was one of our stronger performances in Turin in recent memory.
Bastoni explained to Sky Sport Italia, further adding: “Fortune favored us tonight; if their corner header had struck the post and gone in, instead of wide, we would be discussing a vastly different outcome, despite our overall performance.”
I am incredibly proud of these players because whenever we falter, people are quick to pounce, and we must always be prepared for that.
Following four rounds of Serie A action, Napoli remains the only team with an unblemished 100 percent record. In contrast, Juventus experienced a slight stumble, recording two consecutive 1-1 draws against Verona and Atalanta.
I have immense belief in this squad. While other teams have strengthened, we remain confident that we will contend at the top.
Bastoni also took a moment to commend the first goal scored by 20-year-old Pio Esposito, his teammate for both Inter and the national squad.
We are well aware of his character off the pitch, and we are thrilled by his progress, as we require promising Italian talents emerging through the ranks.
