Ahead of the upcoming clash between Lazio and AS Roma, legendary figure Francesco Totti emphasized the unparalleled nature of the Derby della Capitale, calling it “a derby unlike any other”.
This fixture holds substantial weight for both Roman clubs. Lazio aims to recover from an inconsistent start to their season, while Roma seeks their inaugural derby win under the leadership of their new head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Totti remarked on the derby`s inherent complexity and beauty, highlighting how “Rome experiences it differently from everything else.”

He elaborated on the derby`s ever-changing dynamics: “Every derby is different — won, lost, or drawn, it always carries profound significance. Naturally, victories are cherished most, but merely participating in such a game is an unforgettable experience. Only those from Rome truly grasp the profound importance and value of this encounter.”
Totti on Lazio`s Key Threat and Roma`s Champions League Ambitions
The iconic Italian figure also shared his thoughts on his former club`s recent 1-0 home defeat to Torino.
Totti speculated that the team “lacked the mentality, the determination, and the desire to win,” suggesting they might have underestimated the opponent after securing two initial consecutive victories.
When asked to pinpoint crucial players for each side, Totti offered a collective perspective.
For Roma, the retired forward chose not to highlight any single player, stating: “I believe in the strength of the group, because an individual cannot achieve much on their own. Unity, a strong collective performance, and great determination are the keys to moving forward.”

Regarding Lazio, Totti singled out Italian winger Mattia Zaccagni as a potential threat, yet expressed confidence that “with the formation Gasperini adopts, he will create a good cage for him,” suggesting a tactical plan to neutralize Zaccagni.
Looking ahead to Roma`s seasonal ambitions, Totti expressed his hope for the team to “finish in the top four.” He affirmed this as “everyone’s main objective, especially the fans,” believing that “Roma deserves to return to the highest level and compete in a competition like the Champions League.”
