RC Lens manager Pierre Sage has firmly stated his belief that Paris Saint-Germain is currently the “best team in the world,” a sentiment he holds despite their recent defeat in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
As Sage prepares his squad to face the reigning Ligue 1 champions at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, he reiterated his admiration for Les Parisiens. Despite their clear 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final this past summer, Sage maintains that PSG sets the benchmark in football today. “I will repeat it, but PSG is for me the best team in the world today,” Sage affirmed on Friday.
The current holders of both the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 titles are one of only two teams in the French top flight to boast a 100% winning record after three matchdays; the other perfect starter is Sage`s former club, Lyon.
Statistically, Les Parisiens are leading the charge in 2025 among clubs in Europe`s top five leagues, having scored the most goals (127) and secured the most wins (37) across all competitions. Their dominance extends to their home fixtures against Lens, where the French champions remain unbeaten in their last nine encounters. Furthermore, PSG has emerged victorious in their last five consecutive Ligue 1 meetings with Les Sang et Or.
Under Sage`s guidance, Lens has also started their campaign impressively, bouncing back from an opening 1-0 loss to Les Gones with two consecutive league victories. Should they secure another win on Sunday, it would mark the first time the Northern French club has achieved three straight top-flight successes since January-February 2024.
Adding to their strong form, Les Sang et Or have managed to secure points in their last four away league matches, a positive trend that dates back to the previous season.
