French club Racing Club de Lens is reportedly on the cusp of finalizing the transfer of 23-year-old Malian international midfielder Mamadou Sangaré from Austrian powerhouse Rapid Wien. According to L’Equipe, Sangaré successfully completed his medical examination with Lens this Tuesday. The agreement between the clubs is valued at €8 million, which includes €3 million in performance-related add-ons, paving the way for his move to Northern France.
Last season, Sangaré was a pivotal player for Rapid Wien, making 44 appearances across all competitions. During this period, he contributed three goals and three assists, notably helping his team reach the UEFA Conference League quarter-finals. Lens’ pursuit of Sangaré comes as they seek to reinforce their midfield, following the departure of Neil El-Aynaoui to AS Roma and the potential exit of Andy Diouf.
The acquisition of Sangaré would provide a timely boost for Lens, who recently suffered a home defeat in their Ligue 1 season opener against Lyon. They are set to face Le Havre in their second matchday fixture.
