Liam Rosenior Condemns ‘Unacceptable’ Fan Banners Targeting Chelsea-Bound Emanuel Emegha

Football & Cricket

Strasbourg officially confirmed on Friday the transfer of their forward, Emanuel Emegha (22), to Chelsea, with the deal set to become effective from July 1st. However, this announcement did not sit well with a segment of the club`s supporters. Many expressed outrage that their striker and captain`s future had already been decided, particularly as the transaction involves fellow BlueCo-owned club, Chelsea.

Supporter Discontent Visible On Match Day

The depth of this discontent became evident during Strasbourg`s 1-0 victory over Le Havre on Sunday. Members of the club’s Ultra Boys supporter group prominently displayed a banner bearing a critical message:

Emegha, who was not included in the matchday squad, also faced boos and jeers from the crowd when he stepped out for the presentation of his Ligue 1 August Player of the Month award.

Coach Liam Rosenior`s Vehement Condemnation

Following the game, Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior publicly condemned the supporters` actions, with his remarks being shared on RCSA’s official X account. Rosenior voiced his profound disappointment:

“Emmanuel Emegha was devastated, and I was too. I am very disappointed by what I saw. Seeing banners against one of last season’s best players is unacceptable.”

He further elaborated on his team`s commitment and the unfairness of the treatment:

“My players deserve much better. They have an impeccable attitude and do not deserve this treatment. This is a pivotal season in which we will be playing in the European Cup, but it seems that a minority are unhappy with our performances.”

Rosenior concluded by reaffirming his steadfast support for Emegha and stressing that these negative sentiments do not reflect the entire fanbase:

“It won’t change anything because I remain very proud of my players, and Emmanuel Emegha will remain captain as long as he is here. It must be emphasised that this does not concern everyone, but only a minority.”
