Lorient Eyes Former Lens Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan

Football & Cricket

FC Lorient is reportedly considering a transfer for Mathew Ryan, the former RC Lens goalkeeper. Ryan became a free agent on July 1 after his short-term contract in northern France concluded.

The 33-year-old Australian international, captain of the Socceroos and expected to participate in the 2026 World Cup, played for Lens in the latter half of the previous season. During his time there, he took over starting duties and made 14 appearances, allowing 17 goals and achieving six clean sheets.

Lorient`s search for a new goalkeeper has become urgent after Swiss international Yvon Mvogo left the club as his contract was not extended. The newly-promoted Ligue 1 club, based in Brittany, is reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Ryan as they prepare for their return to France`s top flight.

Before joining Lens, Ryan had played for clubs such as Brighton, Real Sociedad, and FC Copenhagen. He also boasts an impressive record of over 80 international appearances for Australia.
