Bologna faces a significant challenge in retaining their key defender, Jhon Lucumi, as a host of prominent European clubs are actively pursuing his signature. While English sides Sunderland and Bournemouth are reportedly nearing Bologna`s asking price of €25 million, Lucumi`s agent is simultaneously engaged in discussions with Spanish football giant, Atletico Madrid.
The Rossoblu had initially intended to keep the majority of their squad intact for the current season, particularly after the transfer of Sam Beukema to Napoli. However, maintaining this objective is proving increasingly difficult amidst intense transfer market activity.
Adding to their roster retention concerns, fellow Bologna player Dan Ndoye is currently the subject of a competitive bidding war involving Napoli and Nottingham Forest. Similarly, Lucumi himself is attracting considerable interest from various teams across different leagues.
Intense Competition for Lucumi`s Signature

According to reports from the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, Bournemouth is closely monitoring Lucumi`s situation. However, Sunderland appears to be the most determined suitor for the Colombian centre-back. They are reportedly preparing an enhanced offer of €20 million, potentially supplemented by an additional €2 million in performance-related add-ons, in an attempt to convince Bologna to sanction the international`s transfer.
Furthermore, the same source indicates that Lucumi`s representative is currently in Spain, holding talks with both Atletico Madrid and Villarreal. Both La Liga clubs are actively searching for a left-footed defensive player, making Lucumi an appealing target for their respective recruitment strategies.
Having recently turned 27 last month, Lucumi`s current contract with Bologna is set to expire in June 2026. This contractual situation presents Bologna with a critical decision: they must either agree to his transfer during this window or secure his long-term future with a new contract extension to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the future.
