Jhon Lucumi`s representative has publicly appealed to Bologna to `reconsider` their stance on Sunderland`s bid, especially after the club previously stated that `the timing was not right` and affirmed the defender would stay.
Discussions surrounding Lucumi`s potential move have stalled for some time, with Bologna, often referred to as the Rossoblu, keen to retain their key players, particularly after the recent departures of Dan Ndoye and Sam Beukema.
Bologna`s CEO, Claudio Fenucci, informed Il Resto del Carlino that the club intended to decline any further offers from Sunderland. Fenucci explained, `Jhon harbored a natural desire to leave, but regrettably, the timing of the offer was not conducive. Had it been, we might have facilitated his departure and retained Sam. We do not dictate the transfer market`s timeline. Currently, there`s no adequate replacement available, so Jhon will continue to play for us.`
Lucumi`s Desire for Departure from Bologna

Consequently, Lucumi`s agent, Simone Rondaini, provided a statement to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Rondaini expressed his deep respect for Bologna`s CEO and the club, stating, `I have carefully considered the words of Bologna`s CEO, for whom I have great respect, as I do for the club that has supported Jhon throughout these excellent years.`
He continued, expressing a touch of disappointment: `It`s understandable to feel a degree of letdown, given the consistently strong human relationship we`ve maintained with the club. Our initial understanding from the outset was a two-to-three-year tenure, acknowledging Jhon`s continuous development as a player.`
Rondaini further clarified: `Last year, we readily agreed to stay when requested. However, since the start of the current season, both parties have had a clear understanding: should a suitable offer emerge, Jhon would be allowed to transfer.`
He concluded by hoping that `Bologna would undertake a reconsideration to facilitate a balanced and mutually beneficial outcome for all involved.` Emphasizing his understanding of both the club`s and the player`s significance, Rondaini stated, `I comprehend the importance of both the club and the player, and I simply anticipate that our request will also be given due consideration.`
Despite the ongoing transfer saga, Lucumi has been included in Vincenzo Italiano`s squad for Bologna`s inaugural Serie A fixture against Roma, though his actual participation remains uncertain.
