Luka Modric’s Relentless Drive: An Evergreen Presence for Milan and Croatia in 2025-26

Luka Modric continues to astound the football world, maintaining his status as an undisputed starter for both club and country despite reaching the age of 40. His recent performances highlight an incredible endurance, having received only nine minutes of rest across his last three crucial matches for AC Milan and the Croatian national team.

Modric: A Key Figure with Minimal Rest at AC Milan

Having joined AC Milan on a free transfer earlier this summer, following a distinguished 13-year tenure with Real Madrid, Modric has immediately become a central figure. He has started all six of Milan`s Serie A fixtures this season.

His Serie A debut saw him substituted for 16 minutes towards the end of a 2-1 loss to underdogs Cremonese. Since then, his only other period of rest in the league came during the final nine minutes of a 3-0 victory against Udinese.

The esteemed Ballon d`Or laureate also completed the full 90 minutes for Croatia in their recent World Cup qualifying match, which ended in a goalless draw against Czechia on Thursday evening.

While he has been given some respite in Coppa Italia fixtures, his combined commitments in Serie A and for the national team mean the 40-year-old midfielder has only missed a mere 23 minutes across seven competitive matches this season.

Remarkably, only centre-back Matteo Gabbia boasts more Serie A minutes for Milan this season, having played every minute of the league campaign. Modric has even accumulated more Serie A minutes than Milan`s first-choice goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, who was forced off injured against Bologna in September and subsequently missed the following match against Udinese.
