Ligue 1, Matchday 5
Olympique Lyonnais returned to winning form, securing a narrow 1-0 victory against a determined Angers side, thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Tanner Tessmann.
The Match Overview
The match`s first significant chance fell to Malick Fofana, who skillfully dribbled to the byline before cutting the ball back into the six-yard box. Satriano met the cross but couldn`t direct his shot on target, and Maitland-Niles` follow-up attempt was also thwarted by Angers` goalkeeper, Koffi.
Nicolás Tagliafico initially thought he had put OL ahead from a free-kick, but the goal was disallowed after Moussa Niakhaté was deemed to have handled the ball before setting up Tagliafico. Despite his protests, the former Nottingham Forest defender received a yellow card. Angers almost capitalized on a mistake by Greif, who pushed Raolisoa`s cross into a dangerous area, but Belkhdim failed to convert the opportunity.
Towards the end of the first half, Tessmann came close with an outside-of-the-boot shot that deflected wide, much to his frustration, especially as the referee, Turpin, did not award a corner to Les Gones.
Lyon emerged for the second half with renewed intensity, clearly responding to coach Fonseca`s demands for a more direct approach, his first appearance back in the dressing room since March. This shift was evident as the Rhône club registered as many shots in the opening ten minutes of the second half as they had in the entire first period.
The breakthrough finally came after 65 minutes. Karabec delivered a pinpoint corner into the penalty area, finding Satriano, whose header was well saved by Koffi. However, the Angers stopper couldn`t hold onto the ball, allowing Tessmann to pounce on the rebound from close range and put Lyon ahead. Satriano later hit the post, narrowly missing a debut goal, after a weak penalty appeal for Lyon.
Malick Fofana executed an excellent move to find Maitland-Niles in the box. The former England international shifted the ball onto his stronger foot but curled his effort agonizingly wide. Despite Lyon`s lead, Angers remained a threat, keeping the possibility of an equalizer alive.
In the closing moments, Prosper Peter had a golden opportunity, but Greif produced a superb save at his near post, pushing the shot behind for a corner. Although the resulting corner also created problems, the debutant goalkeeper managed to clear the danger and secure all three points for his team.

Individual Player Highlights (Lyon)
Adam Karabec: The loan signing from Sparta Prague was arguably Lyon`s most influential player in the first half. The Czech attacking midfielder actively participated in many positive attacking moves, getting into good positions and delivering threatening balls into the box, though he couldn`t quite produce a breakthrough.
Malick Fofana: Despite his initial efforts in the first half, the Belgian attacker struggled to exert his usual influence against Angers. He was heavily involved and created some openings but often found his attempts thwarted, leading to visible frustration. His performance significantly improved in the second half, benefiting from a more direct team approach, allowing him to grow in influence and almost secure a goal and an assist.

Individual Player Highlights (Angers)
Lilian Raolisoa: Operating in a more advanced role, the French right-back posed a threat with his forward runs on the right flank. His dynamism caused problems for Tagliafico, and his evasiveness led to him creating chances on both flanks in the final third.
