French club Lyon has reportedly initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential transfer of England U21 midfielder Tyler Morton, aged 22. Lyon`s interest reportedly stems from Morton`s involvement in Lee Carsley`s England U21 squad that secured the 2025 U-21 Euros title. West Ham United is also keeping tabs on the young Liverpool prospect, although their pursuit is said to be contingent on offloading some existing midfielders. Furthermore, Morton is now in the final year of his contract with Liverpool.
This pursuit aligns with Lyon`s strategic need to reinforce their midfield. The club has recently parted ways with Jordan Veretout, who moved to Al-Arabi, and Jordan Lepenant, who joined FC Nantes after a loan spell with `Les Canaris` last season. Moreover, new manager Paulo Fonseca aims to rejuvenate the team`s midfield options. This urgency is heightened by Nemanja Matic, 36, entering his final contract year, and Corentin Tolisso nearing his 31st birthday. Tolisso, a 2018 World Cup winner, had previously been linked with Manchester United.
Even with ongoing financial limitations, Lyon acknowledges the critical need to bolster their squad, particularly as they prepare to compete in the Europa League next season.
