Rémy Descamps (29), Olympique Lyonnais` goalkeeper, experienced a challenging fourth matchday in Ligue 1. During their 3-1 loss to Stade Rennais — Lyon`s first defeat of the season — Descamps conceded three goals late in the game. His late own goal proved costly, and he also sustained an injury during Rennes` equalizing goal.
According to L`Équipe, Descamps is expected to be out for up to a month. The injury occurred when he was reportedly kicked by Jérémie Jacquet (20) during the sequence leading to Les Rennais` opening goal.
Prior to the recent match, Descamps had maintained a clean sheet throughout the current Ligue 1 season. His upcoming absence means Dominik Greif (28) is anticipated to start in goal when Lyon hosts Angers SCO at Groupama Stadium on Friday.
Greif arrived at Lyon, also known as Les Gones, in August, for an initial fee of €4 million, potentially rising by €1.25 million in add-ons. Before his move to Spain with Mallorca, he secured three Slovakian top-flight titles with Slovan Bratislava. During his four-season tenure at Mallorca, Greif made 34 starts in La Liga, including 31 appearances last season. In the 2023-24 season, he played a key role in Mallorca reaching the Copa del Rey final for the fourth time in their history, where they were ultimately defeated by Athletic Bilbao after a penalty shootout.
Descamps himself joined Lyon in August 2024 as a free agent from FC Nantes, and before this recent injury, he was widely considered to be the club`s long-term first-choice goalkeeper.
