Young midfielder Mahamadou Diawara, 20, has officially completed his transfer to Belgian Pro League club Royal Antwerp from French giants Olympique Lyonnais. The move has been confirmed by OL.
Diawara initially joined Lyon in 2019 after developing through Paris Saint-Germain`s esteemed academy. Despite his talent, he struggled to establish himself within Lyon`s first-team setup. Last season, he spent a successful loan spell at Le Havre AC, playing a crucial role in helping Les Ciel et Marines secure their top-flight status. However, this stint was not enough to convince Lyon to retain him for the current campaign, where he had yet to register a single minute of play for Les Gones.
Antwerp`s Option to Buy Diawara for €3 Million
The transfer to Belgium was finalized on the recent deadline day. Diawara joins Royal Antwerp on a season-long loan, for which the Belgian club will pay a loan fee of €250,000. Significantly, Royal Antwerp also holds an option to make the transfer permanent for €3 million at the conclusion of the season. Furthermore, Olympique Lyonnais has included a 20% sell-on clause in the agreement, ensuring a future financial benefit should Diawara be transferred again.
