Manchester City has officially announced the acquisition of 26-year-old Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain. Both prominent clubs confirmed the high-profile transfer, marking a significant move in the football world.
Despite his commendable performances, including significant contributions in the UEFA Champions League for Les Parisiens, Donnarumma was unexpectedly placed on the transfer list. With his contract nearing its expiration, PSG head coach Luis Enrique opted for a change in goal, thereby paving the way for the Italian`s departure from the French capital.
PSG swiftly secured a deal for French international Lucas Chevalier from fellow Ligue 1 club Lille OSC, effectively signaling Donnarumma`s imminent departure. The former AC Milan academy graduate had already agreed to personal terms with the Skyblues, with a transfer fee exceeding €30 million eventually settled upon by both clubs on Deadline Day.
Donnarumma`s anticipated move to the Etihad Stadium was contingent on the successful transfer of current City goalkeeper Ederson to Fenerbahçe. The Italian international has now officially committed to a five-year contract with the Premier League champions, a strategic addition aimed at bolstering their squad for future campaigns.
