Olympique de Marseille is grappling with a growing injury crisis just days before their challenging Champions League opener against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
Following the recent exclusion of new recruit Nayef Aguerd due to a head injury sustained in the 4-0 victory over FC Lorient this past weekend, RMC Sport now reports that fellow summer signing Hamed Junior Traoré will also be unavailable for the trip, sidelined by a thigh injury.
Traoré, who remained on the bench during OM`s recent Ligue 1 fixture against Lorient where Timothy Weah occupied the attacking left wing, joined the club this summer in a €7 million deal, with his contract reportedly extending until 2030.
Leonardo Balerdi is anticipated to step in for Aguerd. Traoré’s absence strengthens the likelihood of Timothy Weah retaining his starting spot, though there remains a slim possibility that new Brazilian acquisition Igor Paixao, who made his debut as a substitute against Lorient last Friday, could be given a starting opportunity.
