The incident occurred in the away dressing room at Roazhon Park, in the aftermath of Marseille’s opening day 1-0 away defeat to Rennes.
Both players faced sanctions for their roles in the bust-up, with Rowe subsequently departing Marseille to join Serie A club Bologna. However, a new development arose when De Zerbi seemingly offered Rabiot a potential path back into the squad. This overture followed OM’s convincing 5-2 home victory against newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC, with the Italian head coach expressing his desire for “an opportunity to rebuild things.”
