Marseille players are reportedly open to Adrien Rabiot`s (30) return to Roberto De Zerbi`s squad, according to TF1. The French international midfielder was previously excluded and placed on the transfer list following a dressing room altercation with teammate Jonathan Rowe. The incident occurred in the away dressing room at Roazhon Park, in the aftermath of Marseille’s opening day 1-0 away defeat to Rennes.
Both players faced sanctions for their roles in the bust-up, with Rowe subsequently departing Marseille to join Serie A club Bologna. However, a new development arose when De Zerbi seemingly offered Rabiot a potential path back into the squad. This overture followed OM’s convincing 5-2 home victory against newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC, with the Italian head coach expressing his desire for “an opportunity to rebuild things.”
TF1 further reports that Marseille`s decision-makers were surprised by De Zerbi`s apparent shift in stance regarding Rabiot`s exclusion. Despite the controversy, Rabiot is said to maintain a popular standing among his teammates, who are reportedly eager for his comeback. Marseille is set to face fierce rivals Lyon next week in the highly anticipated Choc des Olympiques.
