Olympique de Marseille has reportedly finalized an agreement with Dutch club Feyenoord for the transfer of 25-year-old winger Igor Paixão. This significant move sees Marseille outmaneuver Premier League side Leeds United, who were also vying for the Brazilian`s signature. Paixão is now expected to travel to Marseille to undergo a medical examination.
Earlier reports from L`Équipe indicated that Marseille was preparing an improved offer for the winger, amidst Leeds United`s strong interest, which included a €32 million bid plus bonuses to Feyenoord. While the Ligue 1 club had previously seen two offers, valued at €16 million and €28 million respectively, rejected by the Dutch side, their third bid appears to have met Feyenoord`s initial valuation of €35 million.
Marseille has been actively seeking a replacement for Luis Henrique on the left wing, following his transfer to Inter Milan earlier in the window. The club has already bolstered its squad with other notable signings, including Angel Gomes from Lille, CJ Egan-Riley from Burnley, and Facundo Medina from Lens, strengthening Roberto De Zerbi`s defensive options. Furthermore, the return of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is anticipated to be completed within the coming week.
