Olympique de Marseille has reportedly concluded its pursuit of Club Brugge`s 20-year-old Ecuadorian defender, Joël Ordoñez. Ordoñez had been a target for OM throughout the summer transfer window, as the French club explored options to bolster its backline.
However, the Ligue 1 outfit has now re-evaluated its strategy, prioritizing a move for Lutsharel Geertruida (25). The Dutch international is expected to join Marseille from RB Leipzig on a loan agreement that includes an option for a permanent transfer. This development effectively brings an end to Marseille`s interest in Ordoñez.
Geertruida’s anticipated arrival forms part of a broader reinforcement plan, which also includes the expected signing of 19-year-old Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, also from Leipzig. These strategic acquisitions aim to strengthen key areas of OM`s squad as they prepare for the crucial latter stages of the season.
Marseille`s efforts to secure Geertruida are understood to be separate from their ongoing interest in West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, who has also been linked with a move to Sunderland.
