Olympique de Marseille are reportedly targeting Olympique Lyonnais winger Malick Fofana, aged 20, according to Foot Mercato. Marseille, often referred to as `Les Phocéens`, are looking to bolster their squad this summer, following the departure of Luis Henrique to Internazionale Milan.
The club has explored options in the Netherlands, having been linked with Igor Paixão of Feyenoord after Noa Lang joined SSC Napoli. While Marseille is said to have reached a personal agreement with Paixão, they have not yet met Feyenoord`s asking price, reportedly around €40m.
Foot Mercato indicates Fofana is another key target. Marseille are attempting to sign Fofana from their fierce rivals Lyon, with talks reportedly making good progress. However, Fofana, a Belgian international under contract until 2028, has attracted interest from multiple clubs, including Premier League sides like Nottingham Forest and Chelsea FC.
Despite successfully appealing their relegation and remaining in Ligue 1, Lyon are expected to make player sales this summer. It remains to be seen if they would sanction the transfer of such a promising talent to their bitter rivals.
