As the transfer window nears its conclusion, Olympique Marseille is actively seeking to reinforce its midfield. This initiative coincides with the club`s decision to place French international Adrien Rabiot, aged 30, on its transfer list.
According to reports from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, OM has initiated discussions with Portuguese club Benfica regarding their 26-year-old defensive midfielder, Florentino Luís.
Following a significant breakthrough in the 2022-2023 season, which came after loan spells at AS Monaco and Getafe, the Angolan midfielder has accumulated 111 appearances for the Portuguese side. His impressive career includes participation in the UEFA Champions League and even a call-up to Portugal’s preliminary 55-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Marseille`s heightened interest in the Benfica midfielder appears to be a direct consequence of a slowdown in their pursuit of Real Madrid`s Dani Ceballos. Although Les Olympiens had expressed a desire for a loan-to-buy agreement for the Spanish player, Real Madrid`s current asking price has reportedly been deemed excessive by the French club.
Rabiot`s placement on the transfer list reportedly stems from a dressing room altercation involving England U21 player Jonathan Rowe. Rowe has since departed the Provence-based club, making a move to Serie A outfit Bologna.
