Marseille’s Gouiri Heads to Madrid for Champions League Opener

Marseille`s squad is set to travel to Madrid on Monday afternoon for their UEFA Champions League opening match against Real Madrid, scheduled for Tuesday at 21:00 CET. Striker Amine Gouiri will accompany the team despite sustaining an injury during their recent game against Lorient, as reported by L`Équipe.

Gouiri had to leave the field during Friday`s 4-0 Ligue 1 victory against Lorient after a collision with Bamo Meïté. However, he has recovered sufficiently to join the team`s journey. Additionally, Leonardo Balerdi, returning from international duty, will be closely monitored due to foot discomfort, though the central defender is anticipated to start and captain the side.

The team will conduct their final training session at La Commanderie before heading to the airport, opting not to train in Spain prior to the match. On the defensive front, Benjamin Pavard, Nayef Aguerd, and Facundo Medina, who performed well against Lorient, are probable starters. Upfront, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to lead the attack, potentially filling in for Gouiri.
