Massimiliano Allegri, currently the head coach of AC Milan, is anticipated to receive a cordial reception at the Allianz Stadium this evening as he prepares to face his former club, Juventus, in Serie A Round 6. This marks a significant return for the Italian tactician, who spent eight seasons at the helm of the Bianconeri.
Allegri’s initial five-year tenure with Juventus was exceptionally successful. Between 2014 and 2019, he led the club to five Serie A titles, secured four Coppa Italia trophies, and guided them to the Champions League Final on two occasions, solidifying his legacy.
However, upon his return to the club in 2021, the landscape had significantly shifted. Juventus no longer held the dominant position they had enjoyed in the preceding decade, and Allegri managed to secure only one Coppa Italia during his subsequent three years.
Allegri’s Challenging Second Stint at Juventus
This second period was also marred by numerous issues off the pitch. These included a significant points deduction in 2022-23 due to financial irregularities, the resignation of Andrea Agnelli and the entire board in the same season, and major internal changes that saw Cristiano Giuntoli, reportedly not one of Allegri’s strongest advocates, arrive at the Allianz Stadium.

Despite the controversies, Allegri also steered the team through one of its most trying periods since the Calciopoli scandal, enduring a Serie A points deduction and a ban from European competitions in 2023-24. Given these factors, while general Juventus supporters often held divided opinions on Allegri`s time in Turin, the hardcore “ultras” have consistently backed the Livorno-born coach. He is therefore largely expected to receive a warm welcome upon his return to the Allianz Stadium this evening.
Allegri`s Perspective on His Juventus Return
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Saturday, Allegri shared his thoughts on the impending reunion:
“It’s not about revenge. When I joined Juventus, I thanked Milan for the preceding four years. Before returning here [to Milan], I thanked Juventus.”
“This isn`t a revenge match. It will be a good game. We’ll need to play intelligently and tactically. We defended well against Napoli, but we could have performed better, particularly concerning the penalty incident.”
