Mike Penders: Chelsea Goalkeeper Heads to Strasbourg on Loan

Football & Cricket

Mike Penders, the 19-year-old Chelsea goalkeeper who has yet to make his senior debut for the club, has officially completed a loan move to RC Strasbourg Alsace for the upcoming season. The transfer to the fellow BlueCo-owned side has been confirmed.

Penders initially moved to Chelsea from KRC Genk for €20 million last summer. He was immediately loaned back to his former club, and another loan spell was anticipated this summer. Strasbourg, also part of the BlueCo network, had a vacancy in their goalkeeping department following Djordje Petrović`s departure. Petrović, who had returned to Chelsea, subsequently secured a permanent transfer to Bournemouth.

With Petrović`s exit, Strasbourg was in need of a new goalkeeper, and Penders` arrival at RCSA had been widely anticipated. He marks the first Chelsea player to join Strasbourg on loan this summer. Other transfers between the clubs include Kendry Paez, who is expected to arrive, and Mathis Amougou, who has already made a permanent move from Stamford Bridge to the Meinau. Penders` loan agreement does not include an option for Strasbourg to purchase him permanently.
