Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a prominent figure at Inter, believes that rising Italian football talent Francesco Pio Esposito is facing excessive pressure. Despite this concern, Mkhitaryan remains confident that Italy will soon benefit immensely from the young player`s abilities, referring to him as a “treasure.”
The Inter midfielder specifically highlighted that both the media and supporters are placing undue expectations on the 20-year-old Esposito.
A product of Inter`s youth system, Esposito has already received two consecutive call-ups to the Italian national team, making his senior debut against Estonia just last month.
Following a two-season loan stint at Spezia, Pio Esposito has rejoined Inter, adding depth to their attacking lineup alongside new summer acquisition Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Mkhitaryan Offers Advice to Young Strikers Esposito and Bonny
As one of Inter`s most seasoned players, Mkhitaryan shared the key advice he frequently imparts to the club`s emerging strikers.
He recounted, “I’ve privately advised them to embrace a more selfish mindset. Strikers are ultimately evaluated by the goals they score. While contributing to the team is crucial, as they already do, their goal tally will be the definitive measure.” Mkhitaryan conveyed this to Gazzetta.
He continued, stating, “I constantly remind them: ‘It is your responsibility to secure victories for us.’ My role is to assist with tactical nuances, but the ultimate task of working hard and finding the back of the net rests with them. I genuinely believe they possess immense talent now, and their future will be even brighter, partly due to their excellent professional conduct.”
Mkhitaryan Concerned by “Excessive” Pressure on Pio Esposito
Despite his optimism, Mkhitaryan also observed that the promising Esposito is burdened by an overwhelming amount of pressure.
“Indeed, it`s too much, and I find it concerning,” he acknowledged.
He elaborated, “He’s only 20 years old and possesses enormous potential, but he requires patience and time to develop. We must avoid burdening him with inflated expectations, as that could hinder his growth. Each player needs to progress at their own pace. Rest assured, Italy will eventually revel in the talent of this precious player.”
