Monaco goalkeeper Yann Lienard, aged 22, is reportedly set to move to Montpellier HSC on a season-long loan deal. This transfer comes as the young keeper seeks more first-team opportunities.
Despite progressing through Monaco`s youth academy, Lienard has only made a single senior appearance for the club, which occurred during a Coupe de France victory last December. His path to regular playing time is currently obstructed, as he is behind both Radoslaw Majecki and Philipp Köhn in the team`s pecking order. Furthermore, Monaco is expected to bring in another goalkeeper this summer, with discussions reportedly underway for Bayer Leverkusen`s Lukas Hradecky. Should a new number one arrive, it is anticipated that either Köhn or Majecki would depart.
Given these circumstances, Lienard`s chances for significant playing minutes in the upcoming season would be severely limited. Consequently, the young French goalkeeper is now poised to join Montpellier, a Ligue 2 club actively searching for a new primary goalkeeper following Benjamin Lecomte`s recent move to Fulham.
