Morgan asserts that it would be stupid to play Jofra Archer during the ICC World Cup 2023. Eoin Morgan, a former captain of England, has advised against introducing Jofra Archer to the lineup midway through the 2023 ICC World Cup, stating it would be “naive” to believe that Jos Buttler’s team should use Archer, who hasn’t played since May.

In addition to being the team’s top wicket-taker in the tournament, Archer was a member of the squad that defeated New Zealand in the ODI World Cup final at Lord’s in 2019. Due to many fitness difficulties that have kept the Barbados-born seamer constantly in the treatment room, he has only played in seven ODIs since that time. He hasn’t participated since the May IPL.

“I don’t think it would be a good idea,” I said. We don’t know what he’s capable of because he hasn’t been tested. He has obviously returned to bowling wonderfully during team training, but you would prefer to see it during a game. According to Morgan, a World Cup ambassador, “I think it would be naive of anyone to think just chuck him in whenever you can given the injury issues that he’s had in recent times.”

Next week, Archer will go to Mumbai to join the England team as their lone reserve player for the competition. He took part in practice sessions prior to England’s ODI series against New Zealand last month, demonstrating his bowling prowess.

He has also actively participated in bowling sessions at Hove as part of his recovery. Archer’s chances of making an appearance soon were also downplayed by the former captain, who stated: “For him to play, there needs to be quite a significant injury.”Since the competition has only been going for a week, a bowler would need to be injured for six weeks.
