Nemanja Matic has arrived in Italy and is set to undergo a medical examination with Sassuolo on Monday, signaling his return to Serie A as a free agent.
The midfielder, who turned 37 earlier this month, successfully negotiated the termination of his contract with Olympique Lyonnais, just one year after joining them from Stade Rennes.
Sky Sport Italia reportedly captured footage of the player at the airport, awaiting transport for his scheduled Sassuolo medical tests on Monday.
This move marks Matic`s second stint in Italy, having previously played for AS Roma during the 2022-23 season before his transfer to Rennes.
During his time with the Giallorossi, the experienced midfielder made 50 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
His distinguished career also includes spells at Chelsea, Vitesse, Benfica, and a five-year tenure at Manchester United.
Sassuolo had previously confirmed discussions with the Serbian international, who will now join coach Fabio Grosso`s squad in Reggio Emilia.
