“No fireworks display is planned for Mumbai,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated. There won’t be any fireworks in Mumbai on Thursday before India plays Sri Lanka in the 33rd match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium. This announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

According to a statement released by Jay Shah, the Indian cricket board is mindful of environmental issues. As a result, they brought the topic before the ICC, which made the decision to forgo fireworks at Wankhede Stadium in order to reduce pollution.

He continued by saying that BCCI is dedicated to addressing environmental problems and will always prioritise the needs of stakeholders and fans.

“BCCI is cognizant of environmental issues. Since I filed an official complaint with the ICC, Mumbai will not host any fireworks displays, which might raise the city’s pollution levels. “The Board is dedicated to addressing environmental concerns and will consistently prioritise the needs of our supporters and interested parties,” stated Jay Shah.

He went on to say that the BCCI was aware of the serious issues with the quality of the air in Mumbai and New Delhi.

“The BCCI recognises that the quality of the air in Mumbai and New Delhi is an immediate concern. We’re working hard to make the ICC World Cup a celebration of cricket, but we’re not going to waver in our resolve to put everyone’s health and safety first,” he said in closing.

The next game between India and Sri Lanka is set to take place in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Having won each of the first six games in the ICC World Cup, India is currently atop the standings. Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa come next. England, the reigning champions, are last in the standings.
