“Not feeling the same passion”: Asad Shafiq declares his retirement from all sports and his intention is to join the Pakistan national team. Asad Shafiq, a batsman for Pakistan in Test matches, has declared his retirement from all cricket-related activities following a decline in his enthusiasm for the sport. 

On Sunday, the 37-year-old revealed the news. “I am not playing cricket with the same love and excitement, and my fitness levels are not up to par for playing at the international level. which is why, after guiding Karachi Whites to the National T20 Championship victory, I have made the decision to bid adieu to all cricket,” he declared at a news conference.

Asad Shafiq also stated that he was going to agree to a contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board to serve as a national selector for a fee. “I am reviewing the contract that I received from the board, and I hope that it will be processed soon.”

He declared that he was excited about the task of serving as a national selector and that he would like to continue playing the game. From 2010 to 2020, Asad was the mainstay of the Pakistani Test batting lineup, amassing 4660 runs at a respectable average of 38.19 in 77 matches, including 12 hundreds and 27 fifties.

Asad, Younis Khan, Misbah ul Haq, and Azhar Ali made up the backbone of Pakistan’s Test batting unit. Following the 2010 spot-fixing incident in England, Asad was viewed as the epitome of Pakistani cricket clean, uncontroversial, and a lifelong shy of the spotlight and media. Asad said that he had never been under any duress to make choices in his international cricket career and that he had always followed his gut.

Asad said that he was happy to have played for Pakistan under Misbah ul Haq, which improved the country’s reputation in cricket. “Pakistan cricket faced tremendous hardship during the 2010 spot-fixing incident, but I’m glad I was a part of the process that helped us regain the public’s trust.
