FC Nantes has officially completed the transfer of Nigerian international defender Chidozie Awaziem (28) from Colorado Rapids, a move confirmed by both clubs. This marks Awaziem`s highly anticipated return to La Beaujoire, where he previously played during the 2017-2018 season on loan from FC Porto. He has now signed a comprehensive three-year permanent contract with “Les Canaris,” solidifying his long-term commitment to the club.
Nantes had been actively seeking a central defender following the recent departures of Jean-Charles Castelletto and Nicolas Pallois. Awaziem is set to don the number 6 jersey for his returning club, a testament to the role he is expected to play in the team`s defensive setup.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Awaziem stated: “When this opportunity arose, I didn’t hesitate for a second to return, because for me, Nantes truly feels like home. The people here are wonderful, the club itself is excellent, and I was genuinely eager to rejoin this familiar environment.”
Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith commented on the transfer, saying: “We are grateful to Chido for his contributions during his time with the club this season. We extend our best wishes for his continued success in this new chapter of his career.”
