Brentford has acted swiftly to strengthen their attacking line-up, confirming the acquisition of Dango Ouattara from AFC Bournemouth. This move comes as the club prepares for the potential departure of a key winger.
On Saturday, The Bees officially announced the signing of the 23-year-old Burkina Faso international. Ouattara has committed his long-term future to the West London club, signing a contract that runs until 2030, with an option to extend for an additional year. His arrival carries significant expectations, as Brentford has reportedly paid a club-record fee of £42.5 million, which translates to nearly €50 million.
Prior to his transfer to AFC Bournemouth in January 2023, Ouattara showcased his abilities during two seasons with FC Lorient in Ligue 1. In the 2022-23 season, he was particularly impactful, scoring six goals in 18 top-flight appearances for the French side before his mid-season move to England.
The 23-year-old also boasts an impressive international record, having made 30 appearances for the Burkina Faso national team and finding the net on 10 occasions. He is widely expected to become Brentford`s primary winger this season, potentially filling the void left by Yoane Wissa (28). Wissa`s absence from Brentford`s squad for their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest on Sunday fueled speculation, and he has been strongly linked with numerous clubs, with Newcastle United reportedly leading the race for his signature.
This season marks Brentford`s fifth consecutive campaign in England`s top flight. However, Ouattara joins a team facing tempered expectations, as many pundits anticipate a challenging season, predicting a finish closer to the bottom of the table following the departure of manager Thomas Frank, who has moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
Keith Andrews, who previously served as the club`s set-piece coach under Frank, has been appointed as the new manager to lead Brentford forward. Ouattara`s attacking prowess was evident during his tenure at Bournemouth, where he scored seven goals and provided four assists in the Premier League, making him the fourth-highest goalscorer for the Cherries in a relevant past season (likely 2023-24).
