Leeds United has confirmed the acquisition of 27-year-old Brazilian international goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Olympique Lyonnais. Perri`s strong performances as one of Ligue 1`s most dependable goalkeepers last season, combined with Lyon`s financial challenges, made him a sought-after talent among European clubs. The transfer involves a fixed fee of €16 million, an additional €2 million in performance-related add-ons, and a 10% sell-on clause for Lyon, as jointly announced by both clubs.
Perri`s move to Lyon from Botafogo occurred 18 months prior. Initially, he served as backup to Anthony Lopes but eventually established himself as the first-choice keeper, playing 49 matches for the French club. While AS Monaco, among others, had shown interest in signing a new No.1 (including David de Gea), Leeds had been tracking Perri closely. Their interest stemmed from a desire to strengthen their goalkeeping position, following a season where incumbent Ilan Meslier faced increased scrutiny for several high-profile errors. Perri has committed to a four-year contract with the Peacocks.
