Official: Leo Østigård Returns to Genoa on Loan

Football & Cricket

Genoa CFC has officially confirmed the loan acquisition of Norwegian centre-back Leo Østigård (25) from French club Rennes. The agreement between the two teams reportedly includes an option for a permanent transfer, valued at €8 million. This marks a significant return for Østigård to the Serie A side, where he previously spent a loan period from January to June 2022.

Rennes had originally secured Østigård`s services from Napoli last year in a €7 million deal. He was initially brought in with expectations to fill the void left by Belgium international Arthur Theate. However, the former Brighton defender struggled to make a lasting impression during his time at the club and was subsequently loaned to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim with a purchase option for the latter half of the recent campaign, having been deemed surplus to requirements by the French outfit.
