Football club Nantes has officially announced the acquisition of Kwon Hyeok-kyu (24), a midfielder previously with Celtic FC and a former South Korea U23 international. The Ligue 1 side, often referred to as “Les Canaris,” had been actively searching for a defensive midfielder to enhance Luis Castro`s squad depth, especially following the departures of Douglas Augusto and Pedro Chirivella. Kwon Hyeok-kyu has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Nantes.
The 24-year-old initially joined the Scottish Premiership giants from Busan two years ago. However, he never managed to make a senior appearance for “the Bhoys,” spending his two previous seasons out on loan. His loan spells included stints at St. Mirren and later at Hibernian. Despite his limited play for Celtic, Kwon Hyeok-kyu was still under contract with the Scottish club until 2028. Interestingly, Kwon Hyeok-kyu might not be the sole South Korean talent to join Nantes this summer, as reports suggest that Mainz midfielder Hyun-seok Hong is also anticipated to move to “La Maison Jaune” on a loan deal.
