Olympique Lyonnais has officially announced the acquisition of Tyler Morton (22) from Liverpool. The 22-year-old midfielder, an England U21 international, joins Lyon for an estimated fee of €15 million, including potential add-ons. As part of the agreement, Liverpool, his former club, will also retain a 10% sell-on clause on any future transfer of the player.
Morton has committed to a five-year contract with the French club, ensuring his presence at the Groupama Stadium until 2027. This summer, the midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, as he did not make a single senior appearance for the “Reds” in the Premier League last season, despite Liverpool`s successful title-winning campaign.
Despite his limited opportunities within the Merseyside club`s first team, Morton arrives at Lyon with considerable professional experience. The Englishman successfully completed two productive loan spells in the EFL Championship, playing key roles for both Hull City and Blackburn Rovers. Furthermore, he was an integral part of the Liverpool squad that secured both domestic cup competitions in 2022.
