Genoa has officially completed the transfer of Norwegian international defender Leo Ostigard from Rennes. The agreement is structured as a loan, with an embedded option for Genoa to secure his services permanently at the conclusion of the current season.
The reported fee for this permanent acquisition, should Genoa exercise the option, is believed to be set at €8 million, marking a familiar return for the centre-back to the Italian club.
Ostigard`s Third Stint in Serie A

This move signifies a notable return to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for Ostigard, who previously had a successful six-month loan spell with the Grifone in 2022, arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Following his initial period at Genoa, Ostigard remained in Italy`s top flight, joining Napoli in the summer of 2022 in a transfer worth €5.5 million. He was a valued member of the squad that famously clinched the Scudetto title. Subsequently, in 2024, he moved to French club Stade Rennes for €7 million.
Most recently, the Norwegian defender spent a loan period with TSG Hoffenheim in Germany, playing for them from February to June 2025.
A seasoned international, Ostigard has earned 31 senior caps for Norway. He will celebrate his 26th birthday this coming November.
Cumulatively, across his time with both Genoa and Napoli, Ostigard has made 46 appearances in Serie A.
