Watford FC has officially completed the signing of 19-year-old Moroccan U21 international Othmane Maamma from Montpellier HSC. The young player has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed.
Maamma is a product of the Montpellier academy and made 14 appearances for their first team in Ligue 1. Although he primarily operates on the right flank of the attack, he is also comfortable playing on the left. He registered his first senior goal on his first start for the club during the 2023/24 season, securing a 2-1 victory over RC Lens.
His second and final goal for the French side came in a 2-1 win against Toulouse FC in January of this year. This particular match also marked Montpellier`s last victory in a challenging campaign where `La Paillade` ultimately finished at the bottom of the league table.
Othmane Maamma will be hoping for a more successful period at his new club. Watford finished last season in 14th place in the Championship. The upcoming campaign will be the club`s fourth consecutive season competing in English football`s second tier since their relegation in the 2021/22 campaign.
