Fiorentina forward Roberto Piccoli has received his inaugural call-up to the Italian national team. He will be stepping in for Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni, who has been ruled out due to an injury. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) officially confirmed this change in the squad.
Zaccagni will unfortunately miss Italy`s upcoming international fixtures in October against Estonia and Israel. His absence is due to an adductor injury, necessitating his withdrawal from the national team roster. Piccoli, a promising center-forward from Fiorentina, has been named as his replacement.

The FIGC`s announcement regarding the squad adjustment came on Saturday morning, just hours after Lazio confirmed Zaccagni`s injury, which also led to his exclusion from their league match against Torino. Lazio further stated that Zaccagni is scheduled for additional medical assessments on Monday to determine the full extent of his injury.

Under coach Gennaro Gattuso, Zaccagni had started for Italy in his first match in charge against Estonia in September, but he was not included in the squad for the subsequent game against Israel. In contrast, Piccoli has already made a significant impact this season, featuring in six matches across all competitions for Fiorentina and scoring two goals.
New Faces in the Italy Squad for October 2025

Roberto Piccoli, an academy product from Atalanta, is one of three players set to make their senior Italy debut this month. He is joined by his Fiorentina teammate Hans Nicolussi Caviglia and Bologna winger Nicolò Cambiaghi, marking an exciting period for the national team under Gattuso.
