Olympique de Marseille is reportedly on the brink of completing a landmark deal for Feyenoord`s talented winger, Igor Paixão. This impending transfer is poised to become the most expensive acquisition in the French club`s storied history.
Discussions between the two football clubs have progressed rapidly this week, with a comprehensive agreement now understood to be within reach. While a few minor details still require finalization, the core terms of the deal are believed to be established. The dynamic Brazilian attacker is expected to join OM for a fee anticipated to be around €35 million, a sum that includes various performance-based bonuses. This figure would notably surpass the €32 million Marseille paid to Braga for forward Vitinha in January 2023, setting a new club record for incoming transfers.
The 25-year-old Paixão has already agreed to personal terms on a long-term contract, reportedly extending until 2030. Since his arrival at Feyenoord in 2022 from Coritiba, the versatile winger has consistently delivered impressive performances in the Eredivisie. He played a pivotal role in the Dutch club`s triumphant 2022-23 title-winning campaign, showcasing his skill and impact.
This potential signing represents a significant strategic success for Marseille`s new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, who has actively sought to bolster the team`s attacking options during the current transfer window. Marseille has already made considerable strides in strengthening their squad this summer, having secured the services of Angel Gomes, CJ Egan-Riley, and Facundo Medina (in a €22 million move). Furthermore, the club is widely anticipated to finalize the return of experienced striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer, adding further depth to their forward line.
