Pakistan Qualification For the Semi-Finals of the ICC World Cup 2023 and NRR Margin

Pakistan’s last win over Bangladesh has raised hopes of Pakistan’s qualification for the Semi-Finals of the CWC2023. Pakistani fans are excited that Pakistan can still qualify for the Semi-Finals which is true but not as straightforward as the fans are thinking right now. The final four races are heating up, with New Zealand facing the possibility of elimination and two teams Pakistan and Afghanistan are eyeing to grab that opportunity.

There are two scenarios if that is fulfilled, Pakistan can grab New Zealand’s spot to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup 2023. Looking at the current form of New Zealand’s team both are unlikely to happen. The first one is a bit straightforward.

Scenario 1: If Pakistan wins two of their remaining matches against New Zealand and England and New Zealand lose all their remaining 3 matches. New Zealand’s last three matches are against South Africa, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Scenario 2: This one is a bit complex. The margin between Pakistan’s and New Zealand’s run rate is around 300 runs and that is something unlikely to happen for Pakistan. If they lose at least two matches over 100 runs then Pakistan can join the knockout party but they also need to win with a massive NRR.

Pakistan will be hoping to win the remaining matches with margins and New Zealand to lose with big margins too. Things are looking gloomy for Pakistan to qualify but remember it is the team that a lot depends on miracles. So, they are hoping for another miracle in this tournament.
