The very onset of ICC WC2023 has kicked off with Pakistan winning the toss and electing to bat first in the opening warm-up match against the Black Caps. PCT captain Babar Azam is leading the side. Abdullah Shafique got a chance to prove his place in the 11 together with Imam ul Haq, currently the 2nd Pakistani batter, along with Baber in the top ten of the ICC ODI Batter Ranking List recently updated.
A traditional start was provided by the two batters as Pakistan only managed to score 33 for the loss of 1 wicket in the mandatory Powerplay. Matt Henry from New Zealand successfully dismissed the left-arm batter in the 3rd over of the match when he was playing at 1. At the same time, Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam finished the powerplay with 33/1. This is undoubtedly the New Zealand that just toppled the Pakistan Cricket Team in the first powerplay of the warm-up match.

On the other hand, Matt Henry, the pick of the bowlers, started the inning with the ball from Black Caps and bowled only 3 overs only conceding 8 and taking the crucial wicket of Imam too. Whereas, the other right-arm spinner, Glenn Phillips, bowled only 2 overs in the powerplay, conceding 9 without getting any wicket. Tom Latham introduced Mitchell Santner and James Neehsam in the Powerplay, too, but couldn’t break the partnership. Shatner gave away 9 in his 3 overs, and Neesham was hit for 6 in his first 2 overs.
